Alloy 355 is a chromium-nickel-molybdenum stainless steel . Alloy 355 may have an austenitic structure and formability similar to other austenitic stainless steels or a martensitic structure and high strength comparable to other martensitic stainless steels depending on the heat treatment. High strengths may be also be attained by cold working.
Of the 400 series of stainless steels, 400C has the highest carbon content and moderate corrosion resistance and can heat-treat to the highest harness of RC 60. (In contrast, 416 is normally heat treated to RC 26/32)
Stainless steel 410 is a basic martensitic grade which contains 11.5% chromium, offering both exceptional wear and corrosion resistance. 410 is generally used for applications which involve mild corrosion, high strength, and heat resistance.
303 Stainless machines well and cuts clean and maintains it resistance to corrosion in temperatures up to 1500 degrees F. Good applications include repeat machining, fittings and fasteners.
