Stainless 304, also known as 18-8 stainless, is the most common steel used in a variety of uses because of the ease in which it can be formed into various shapes. Non-magnetic and highly resistant to corrosion makes it a good all-purpose stainless.
Type 403 stainless is a corrosion and heat resistant 12% Cr martensitic alloy, very similar to stainless type 410, with the exception of a slightly lower maximum silicon content and a slightly lower maximum chromium content. Good levels of strength, toughness and ductility may be obtained with this alloy.
Stainless steel 410 is a basic martensitic grade which contains 11.5% chromium, offering both exceptional wear and corrosion resistance. 410 is generally used for applications which involve mild corrosion, high strength, and heat resistance.
303 Stainless machines well and cuts clean and maintains it resistance to corrosion in temperatures up to 1500 degrees F. Good applications include repeat machining, fittings and fasteners.
